Congregation Shomrei Torah / About Shomrei Torah & the Community of Fair Lawn Shomrei Torah is an Orthodox Jewish congregation in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Led by Rabbi Benjamin Yudin, and our Rabbinic Assistant, Rabbi Ian Lichter, we offer a truly warm, welcoming atmosphere and an extremely active and engaged membership of almost 300 member families. Shomrei Torah is a member synagogue of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America.
Fair Lawn is an exciting place for a single
person or a young family looking to join a vibrant Jewish community. We have so
much to offer, including a large functioning Eruv, a newly renovated
Mikvah, and
many daily Minyanim and Shiurim. There are several kosher restaurants and take-out
establishments in town, as well as a bakery. The spiritual leader of the community is Rabbi Benjamin Yudin. An alumnus of Yeshiva University, he is currently on the faculty of Y.U.’s James Strier School, where he teaches Bible and Jewish Thought. Among Rabbi Yudin’s numerous achievements is his contribution of an introduction and commentary for the Artscroll Transliterated Linear Siddur. He is also a noted radio commentator on WFMU’s “JM in the AM.” Congregation Shomrei Torah houses a beautiful ballroom for catered affairs. It is home to a thriving Sisterhood and Men’s club, NCSY chapter and B’nei Akiva. For the education-minded young family, Congregation Shomrei Torah operates the Leah Sokoloff Nursery School, which offers developmentally appropriate programs for children ages two and a half through four in a nurturing Orthodox environment. We also provide a summer program with fun and diverse activities for children ages three through five. The nursery school has been in existence for more than a decade, provides age appropriate activities in art, music, language, science and math while enhancing the children’s appreciation for their Jewish heritage and connection to Israel. A full-time on-site educational director, accredited teachers and teachers’ assistants staff the school. The school prides itself on its low student-teacher ratio. For older children, Bergen County is a wealth of religious educational opportunities. There are many elementary yeshivot, including Yavneh Academy, the Moriah School of Englewood, Yeshivah of North Jersey and Yeshivat Noam. Area high schools include The Frisch School, Maayanot Yeshiva High School and Torah Academy of Bergen County. We want people to know that Fair Lawn is a great antidote to other overcrowded and overpriced Jewish neighborhoods in Bergen County, and is filled with down-to-earth people from all walks of life, including professionals and educators. Beautiful and affordable housing is available within reasonable walking distance of Shomrei Torah. Several events that are in the works are an Open House, Shabbatons, and a Purim Carnival Party. |
